Trinity Med Day 2010

05.11.10

This year Med Day will take place on November 5th with the Trinity Medical students clearing their lecture timetables to collect for the hospitals they work in during their studies.

This year, Med Day is in aid of The Burns Unit in St. James's Hospital, Colorectal Cancer Screening and the Cancer Care Fund in AMiNCH, Tallaght.

The day begins at 6am when the students arrive to Trinity College and collect their bright yellow t-shirts and their buckets and grab a quick breakfast before marching out around Dublin to spend the morning collecting for the worthy causes chosen by the Committee made up of 4th year students back in June.

At 1pm, the collectors come back to campus, drop off their full buckets and engage in the afternoon's activities including the Inflatable Games, Super Cup football tournament, two live gigs and at 4pm Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction with Comedian Dave McSavage.

At 7pm the annual Med's Got Talent does "Glee" in Trinity and at the interval tickets will be picked for the bumper Raffle with the top prizes being an Apple iPad, a golfing weekend in Cork and Flying Lessons!

Med Day proceeds will allow the Burns Unit to employ a dedicated Clinical Psychologist to assist in the assessment and management of the psychological damage that burns can cause. In Tallaght, a colorectal cancer screening programme is being carried out screening 50 to 74 year olds. The money raised will allow this screening to continue.

The Med Day Committee 2010 is: Conor Broderick (Chair), Rachael Gardner (Secretary), Louise McKenna (Treasurer), Debra Chan, Ann-Marie Hayes, Ronan Sharkey and Neil Thompson.
